iGii Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer Dr Marco Caffio has joined Physics World to discuss the science behind Gii, iGii’s proprietary 3D porous carbon nanomaterial, and the opportunities created by taking advanced materials from scientific discovery towards commercial application.
In the conversation, Marco explores the origins of Gii and how its three-dimensional porous structure provides a different approach to harnessing the properties associated with graphene and other advanced carbon materials.
The discussion also looks beyond the material itself. Marco talks about the importance of manufacturability and the work required to translate material performance into technologies that can be integrated into real products and produced consistently at scale.
Today, iGii is developing Gii across multiple technology platforms, including multi-analyte electrochemical sensing, microheaters and flexible printed battery electrodes, while continuing to explore where the material’s properties could enable new applications.
For iGii, this progression from materials science through to scalable application has been central to the development of Gii from the outset.
